Brandon Smillie: Canadiens Draft Primer 2018, 3rd Overall is…
- Brandon Smillie

“What I’d like to do is make the team better right away,” said Bergevin. “I will, if that’s there, but also [keeping] in mind that I have to look at the long term for the good of the Montreal Canadiens regardless if I’m here or not. That’s my responsibility as the general manager, to make the team better now but always to look at long term. And that will not stop.”

Is he starting this now or was that his goal all along?

they are much closer to a complete rebuilt than to be a serious contender....he has to protect his pool of prospects

Subban for Weber was not a long term move. You could say that about Drouin and Domi.

Let's just hope this is true and he's not trying to fix everything for next season with some dumb moves.

i don't think he has a long term plan or thinks long term. i think he sees what's right in front of him and that's it. if you look at his moves collectively, they make no sense because there's no rhyme or reason to them. you can't say "oh this is the type of team he's trying to build"....

Yeah, so far I would agree. I just hope he won't do someting stupid to get ROR. Not that he is not a good player but no way he would solve mtl problems and make them a contender.

Yeah, seems like he makes deals / decisions w/o considering the impact to other things or have some form of realistic back-up plan in case don't go as planned.

Just look at last year... you don't sign Markov (fine, whatever, he felt there was a principal to the term of the contract), yet you trade his eventual replacement and end up back-filling w/ pylons. And then convince yourself your D is better.

I don't know if he has ADD or something... Oh, shiny, I want that.

He's in the wrong chair, he should be in Timmin's seat and someone with good negotiating skills should be in the big chair.

He should not have a chair at all, and never been given one, to begin with... I gave the benefit of the doubt when he was hired, but man, what mess this has become.

Exciting couldn’t be further from what this sac of poop team is. Replace it with confusing, boring, lost, or anything else polar opposite from exciting.

Stay in disappointment mode because these proud idiots have zero creativity to get a real hockey move done.

At the rate things were going last year, we should let Price walk and put a shovel in net.

Still think someone should try a sumo wrestler, especially now that goalie equipment is proportional to a goalie's size.
